SB 727 (Kuehl) – Paid Family Leave Expansion
California’s paid family leave law provides critical wage replacement
benefits for workers who need to take time off from work to care for
seriously ill parents, children, spouses and domestic partners.
However, the law currently excludes significant family members
–siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, and parents-in-law as potential
care recipients. This legislation expands the program to cover these
important extended family relationships and allows many more California
families the opportunity to care for one another while preserving their
economic well-being.
